About the event
Join museum staff, board members, and USS Greeneville Inc., as we unveil a new exhibit at the Greeneville Greene County History Museum dedicated to the USS Greeneville.
The USS Greeneville (SSN-772) is a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine in the Los Angeles-class submarine fleet. Commissioned in 1996, it is designed for stealth, surveillance, and defense operations around the world. It is the only U.S. Navy vessel named for (a small town) the town of Greeneville, Tennessee, carrying the community’s name across global waters. The USS Greeneville tells a story of how a small town connects itself to the wider world through industry, advocacy, and identity by placing its name on a vessel that operates far beyond its land-locked borders.
